Rail transport between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan doubled

Statistics from Uzbekistan Railways show that the volume of rail transport between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan has doubled in the first five months of this year compared to the same period last year.

According to this statistics, during this period, more than 41,000 wagons, equivalent to more than two million and 700 thousand tons of goods, have been moved between the two countries, while this figure was 20,415 wagons during the same period last year.

Shorat Kadyrov, deputy head of the Surkhandarya Railway of Uzbekistan, said that the number of rail transfers has increased from about 20,000 wagons in the first five months of 2025 to about 40-41,000 wagons this year.

Businessmen consider the expansion of rail transportation and the implementation of the Afghan Trans project effective in reducing costs, increasing safety, accelerating the transfer of goods, and strengthening Afghanistan’s transit position in the region.

In addition to trade between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, these transfers also include transit of goods from Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan.
