Following the escalation of tensions over the Strait of Hormuz, China warned the United States not to interfere in Beijing’s relations with Iran and to respect the country’s trade and energy commitments.
The Chinese Defense Minister emphasized that Chinese ships will continue to travel through this waterway and said: “We have trade and energy agreements with Iran and we are committed to them, and we expect others not to interfere in our affairs.”
These statements came after Donald Trump announced a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, an action that has caused serious concern in global energy markets.
Trump had previously warned that any Iranian ship approaching the blockade would be targeted and destroyed, claiming that a large part of Iran’s naval power had been destroyed.
