The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ public relations department issued a statement Sunday morning announcing that the IRGC’s naval and aerospace forces had conducted joint missile and drone operations in response to what it called “recent US aggression.”
According to the statement, the operation took place between 2 and 3 am on Sunday with the firing of ballistic missiles and drones against eight targets belonging to US forces, including the Ali Al-Salem base and facilities related to the US Navy’s 5th Fleet in Port Salman, Bahrain.
The IRGC also claimed that American forces had previously targeted five coastal positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran in response to the Iranian Navy’s action against an “offending ship.”
The statement emphasized that, based on the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,” responsibility for controlling traffic in the Strait of Hormuz lies with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and that from now on, violating ships will be dealt with “more forcefully than in the past.”
The IRGC has warned that any possible military action against Iran, even if it targets “minor targets,” will be met with a crushing response, and that violating the ceasefire could lead to a complete halt to the agreed processes, the organization said.
