Russia warns Seoul about escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the continuation of joint military activities between South Korea and the United States near the borders of North Korea will escalate tensions on the Korean Peninsula and in the region and is provocative in nature.

This position was raised after Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko met with the South Korean ambassador to Moscow; Russia has also expressed concern about Seoul’s support for anti-Russian positions of Western countries, including the European Union.

Moscow has called on South Korea to abandon its policy of pressure and sanctions against North Korea and take practical steps to reduce tensions.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova also announced that Moscow sees no need to respond to criticism from the European Union and South Korea about cooperation between Russia and North Korea, and considered this cooperation to be in accordance with international law.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that South Korea is becoming one of the largest arms exporters in the world with increased arms exports, a matter that has increased security concerns in the region.
