Haaretz: Netanyahu was aware of the consequences of Ben-Governor’s presence in the cabinet
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that Benjamin Netanyahu should dismiss Itamar Ben-Governor from the cabinet after the controversy surrounding the handling of the Samood flotilla activists, but it seems unlikely that such a move will be made.
The newspaper emphasized that Netanyahu was aware from the beginning of the consequences of the presence of Ben-Gwer, who is known as a far-right figure; nevertheless, he entrusted him with one of the most important cabinet positions.
Haaretz added that Ben-Gwer’s actions and positions have caused international embarrassment, political damage, and weakened the Israeli regime’s position.
At the same time, Francesca Albanese, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, described the arrest of the Samood flotilla activists as “maritime piracy” and a violation of international law.
Albanese has emphasized that Ben-Gwer is not the only one responsible for violating the rights of the Samood flotilla activists, and that other Zionist officials also have a role in this matter.
He also said that the response of European countries to the Israeli regime’s actions against the flotilla activists was “late resistance” and that continued European pressure is necessary to stop Israeli aggression.
The UN Human Rights Commissioner has added that it is time for Arab countries to end their cooperation with Israel and put more pressure on the regime.
