Venezuela extradites close Maduro ally to US
The Venezuelan government has announced that it has extradited Colombian-born businessman Alex Saab, a close ally of Nicolas Maduro, to the United States to face multiple criminal charges.
This move is considered a significant change in Venezuelan policy, as the Maduro government had previously made extensive efforts to secure his release, and Joe Biden had pardoned his prisoners in 2023 as part of an exchange agreement.
According to reports, the interim government headed by Delcy Rodriguez, which took power after Maduro’s ouster in January 2026, has decided to extradite Alex Saab to the United States.
