Russian general killed in Moscow car bomb blast

The Russian Investigative Committee announced that Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, head of the operational training department of the country’s General Staff, was killed on Monday as a result of a car bomb explosion in Moscow.

According to international media reports, the Russian Investigative Committee has stated that one of the main hypotheses under investigation is that the bomb was planted by Ukrainian special forces.

The incident is the latest in a series of assassinations and targeted attacks against Russian military and security officials, some of which Kiev has previously claimed responsibility for.

The Security Organization of Ukraine (SBU) claimed responsibility for a similar attack against a senior Russian officer in December 2024.

No official response from Ukraine has been released to this incident, and the Russian committee’s investigation is ongoing
