Trump files $10 billion lawsuit against BBC
On Monday (December 15, 2025), US President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit against the BBC, demanding up to $10 billion in damages.
The lawsuit alleges defamation and deceptive editing of Trump’s January 6, 2021, speech in a Panorama documentary.
Trump claims that the BBC intentionally spliced together separate parts of his speech, which were more than 54 minutes apart, and omitted parts in which he spoke of peaceful and patriotic protest, to make it appear that he encouraged his supporters to be violent and attack the Capitol.
He described the move as putting words in his mouth and an attempt to interfere in the 2024 election.
The BBC previously apologized for the edit, calling it an “error of judgment,” but stressed that there was no legal basis for the defamation claim and that the network had removed the documentary in question from its platforms.
The lawsuit was filed in Miami federal court and is part of Trump’s series of legal actions against the media after winning the election.
He had previously received multi-million dollar compensation from networks such as ABC and CBS
