Trump administration prioritizes deportation of over 1,800 Afghans after Washington shooting

The New York Times reported, citing leaked internal documents, that the Donald Trump administration has significantly increased pressure on Afghan immigrants after the shooting of two National Guard soldiers in Washington, D.C., and has made their immediate deportation a top immigration priority.

According to an email sent by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to its departments on November 29, about 1,860 Afghan citizens whose immigration courts have already issued final deportation orders should be “immediately found and arrested.”

The order also emphasizes that thorough investigations be conducted into individuals related to these cases.

These instructions have been communicated to all local ICE offices across the United States, and federal agents have been instructed to focus specifically on identifying and arresting Afghan citizens.

Officials at the White House and the US Department of Homeland Security have not yet responded to requests for comment.
