Colonel Michael Randria Nyarina, the interim president of Madagascar, who took power last month after a coup, announced on Tuesday evening the discovery of a huge gemstone weighing 300 kilograms in the presidential palace of Amboitsoro Hitra.
This dark boulder, which is adorned with sparkling veins of emerald green crystals, was exhibited as “Emerald in the Matrix” and still requires careful examination by experts to determine the true volume and value of the emerald embedded in it.
The country’s interim president stated at the unveiling ceremony: “This is a national treasure,” adding that there is a possibility of its sale and that the Minister of Mines must explain the transparent process for increasing government revenue from this discovery.
However, he did not provide details about the exact time, location, or how the stone was discovered, saying only: “We found this amazing national treasure after entering the palace, and we don’t know why it was brought here.”
