Hundreds of thousands protest in Manila against corruption in flood control projects
Tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets of the Philippine capital Manila for a second day in a row, demanding accountability from the government over widespread corruption in flood control projects.
The protest, which began on Sunday and was attended by more than 600,000 people, will continue until Tuesday.
The rally was organized by the Iglesia ni Cristo, a church with more than 2 million members that has mobilized its members across the country.
Police estimated that about 320,000 members of the church were present at Manila’s Rizal Park on the first day, many of whom appeared dressed in white and carrying anti-corruption placards.
Recent storms in November have also left more than 259 people dead and fueled public anger
