New York Times exposes Pakistan spent millions of dollars lobbying in Washington to sway Trump
The New York Times revealed in an exclusive report that Pakistan has signed costly contracts worth millions of dollars with prominent lobbying firms in Washington this year to gain an advantage over India, in order to gain privileges such as direct access to Donald Trump.
The report said that Trump’s public praise, his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize and the signing of lucrative trade deals mark a dramatic turnaround in Pakistan’s tense relations with the United States.
For example, Pakistan nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for preventing regional conflict, and this action was part of a massive lobbying campaign.
The New York Times added that in April and May 2025, Pakistan’s lobbying spending in Washington was at least three times higher than India’s, and the country hired six lobbying firms with contracts worth nearly $5 million.
