A US official told Al Jazeera on Thursday morning that the United States is in talks to establish a military base in southern occupied Palestine to host international forces to monitor the Gaza ceasefire, while describing the situation in the Gaza Strip as “very fragile.”
The official, who asked not to be named, stressed that the base would not be for American forces, but would work with international partners to maintain the ceasefire agreement.
He added that the US President’s “assistant” has made progress in negotiations to find a solution to the issue of the Hamas resistance movement in Rafah, and efforts are continuing to recover the bodies of Israelis killed in Gaza.
These comments came as Bloomberg reported on Tuesday evening that the US military is considering establishing a new military base with a capacity of 10,000 personnel in the Atf Azza area (on the outskirts of Gaza) to oversee the ceasefire.
