The longest US government shutdown is nearing an end as the US Senate passes a budget bill
The United States Senate passed a temporary funding bill on Monday evening (November 10, 2025) by a vote of 60 to 40, which could end the longest federal government shutdown in the country’s history within the next few days.
According to this resolution, the US government’s budget will be funded until the end of January 2026; almost all Republican senators, along with eight Democratic senators who broke away from their party line, voted in favor of the bill.
The bill will now be sent to the House of Representatives for final approval, and if approved there, it will reach Donald Trump’s desk. The US President had previously announced that he was ready to sign the bill.
The deal came after intense weekend negotiations between Republicans and a group of Democrats aimed at bringing hundreds of thousands of federal employees back to work and resuming essential government services.
