Nike unveils Project Amplify, the first power-assisted shoe for everyday running and walking
Nike has introduced an innovative project called Amplify as the world’s first power-assisted shoe for running and walking.
This product is designed to help everyday athletes, not for professional competition, but to increase speed and distance with less energy in daily activities.
The initial version of the shoe was developed in collaboration with robotics company Dephy and includes a lightweight motor, power transmission belt, and rechargeable battery hidden in a form factor that resembles an ankle brace.
The system is built with motion algorithms based on Nike Sports Lab research and is compatible with carbon fiber platform running shoes.
Nike emphasizes that Project Amplify is suitable for people who run at a pace of approximately 10 to 12 minutes per mile (about 6 to 7.5 minutes per kilometer) and want to go faster and farther without additional fatigue.
