Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden and Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel announced in a parliamentary committee that Luxembourg will recognize Palestine as an independent state at the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The decision, which is set to be finalized this month, is part of a coordinated effort with other European countries such as France and Belgium.
Luxembourg’s foreign minister also announced that he would propose a bill to parliament so that the country could pursue further measures, including imposing sanctions against Israel.
This action is taken in order to pressure Israel to end the war in Gaza and support the two-state solution.
Previously, Australia, Canada, Belgium, and Britain have also announced their intention to recognize Palestine at the UN General Assembly meeting.
These decisions are conditional on conditions such as holding elections in the Palestinian Authority without the presence of Hamas, disarmament, and progress in peace talks.
