Train-bus collision in Mexico leaves 10 dead, 61 injured

At least 10 people were killed and 61 others injured after a freight train collided head-on with a double-decker city bus in the industrial area of Atlacomulco, located 115 kilometers northwest of Mexico City.

The incident occurred on the morning of Monday, September 8, 2025, and is considered one of the deadliest traffic accidents in Mexico in recent memory.

According to a Reuters report, citing the Canadian Pacific Kansas City Mexico Railway (CPKCM), the bus belonging to the Herrera Dora de Plata company was crossing a railway port when it collided with the train.

Images and videos released show that the bus was slowly crossing the tracks in heavy traffic when a high-speed train hit the middle of it, splitting the bus in two.

The rear half of the bus was pulled down the tracks by the train, and the front half stopped next to the port.

However, reports indicate a lack of security gates or warning lights at the port, which has sparked criticism over the safety of the infrastructure.
