Six months after a political crisis in South Korea, the country’s opposition leader has won the presidential election.
Lee Jae-myung of the center-left won 51.7 percent of the vote, beating conservative rival Kim Moon-soo with 39.3 percent.
South Korea’s early presidential election was held on Tuesday (June 3) as former conservative President Yoon Suk-yeol suddenly declared martial law in the country in December after a budget dispute with parliament.
Although he withdrew the announcement a few hours later, parliament removed him from office.
This dismissal, however, was not accepted by Yun-suk and his supporters, and it led to street protests.
