Kim Jong-un calls for “military revolution” and strengthening of North Korean military units
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has called for the country’s army units to be transformed into elite, self-sufficient combat units, a move that underscores the priority of strengthening Pyongyang’s military capabilities.
North Korea’s state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Saturday, October 24, that Kim made the remarks at a two-day meeting of military unit commanders in Pyongyang on October 22 and 23.
According to Reuters, this is the first nationwide military gathering since the 9th Congress of North Korea’s ruling party in February. In his speech, Kim emphasized that every unit of the army must be fully prepared to achieve the goals of military reinforcement in the new era.
The North Korean leader also called for creating the strongest army and accelerating the process of military revolution in his own style; at the ruling party congress, he also emphasized strengthening conventional military forces while continuing to develop nuclear weapons and missiles.
