An 18-story building under construction suddenly collapsed on Friday in the Eastleigh area of the Kenyan capital Nairobi, raising concerns about people being trapped under the rubble.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s office said a number of people were believed to be trapped under the rubble, with reports suggesting the ground floor of the building was in use when it collapsed.
Rescue teams are searching and clearing debris using heavy machinery; the exact cause of the building collapse has not yet been determined, and authorities have not yet announced an official death toll or possible damage.
