US President Donald Trump has said he plans to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un by the end of this year.
Asked about the possibility of meeting Kim, Trump said, “Yes, I would.” He also claimed that North Korea has 57 “very powerful” nuclear weapons.
The comments came after Trump ordered a reduction and shortening of joint US-South Korean military exercises, saying the exercises send an “inappropriate and hostile” message to Pyongyang.
Trump previously said he had received a message from Kim Jong-un in response to his efforts to resume contacts; however, the North Korean leader’s sister, Kim Yo-jong, said she was unaware of any recent contact between the leaders of the two countries.
