Citing an assessment by US intelligence agencies, the CNN Network reported that Iran still has the necessary capability to close the Strait of Hormuz, and this capacity can be used as one of Tehran’s most important strategic tools in the region.
Based on this report, Iran has retained a significant portion of its drone missile capabilities and naval equipment and, if necessary, is capable of once again threatening maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
CNN added that Iran could affect and disrupt global energy supplies and maritime transportation without incurring heavy military costs.
The assessment states that some US intelligence agencies are concerned that Iran’s success in utilizing this strategic lever will encourage Tehran to use such tools more in potential future confrontations.
