American media reported that a shooting occurred near the White House and that about 20 to 30 shots were fired.

Fox News reported that security forces managed to pin the shooter to the ground and bring the situation under control.
Reuters also quoted an American official as saying that the suspect opened fire on police officers in a security cordon near the White House.
According to the official, security officers also shot the attacker, who was taken to the hospital after being injured.
