OCHA: More than 21 million people in Afghanistan need humanitarian assistance
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that 21.9 million people in Afghanistan were in need of humanitarian assistance in the first three months of this year.
According to the report, OCHA intended to provide assistance to 17.5 million people, but has only managed to provide assistance to 4.7 million people, or about 27 percent of those in need.
OCHA added that $1.7 billion in funding was needed to address the needs of those in need in Afghanistan, but so far only $195 million, equivalent to 11 percent of the required budget, has been provided.
According to this report, 49 percent of aid recipients are children, 30 percent are women, and the remaining 21 percent are men.
