According to a joint poll by the think tank teo 52 and the Data For Progress newsletter, 52 percent of Americans believe that Donald Trump started the war with Iran mainly to cover up the Jeffrey Eastin scandal.
This belief reaches 81% among Democratic Party supporters, and 52% of independent groups support this view.
Even among Republicans who support Trump, 26% believe this.
The survey was conducted as the war with Iran continues and internal US debates about the real reasons for entering the conflict have intensified.
