Sanae Takaichi officially becomes the 105th Prime Minister of Japan
Sanae Takaichi, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), was officially confirmed as the country’s prime minister today after a vote in the Japanese parliament, the House of Representatives and the House of Councilors, and retained his position.
The vote followed a snap general election on February 8, 2026, in which the Liberal Democratic Party, led by Takaichi, won a decisive and historic majority and the most seats.
Sanae Takaichi, who has previously served as prime minister, is now known as the 105th prime minister of Japan. This major victory for the LDP party ensures political stability and the continuation of the party’s conservative and economic policies in the coming period.
