Chinese company AutoFlight unveils world’s largest flying car
Chinese startup AutoFlight, backed by battery maker CATL, unveiled the advanced Matrix flying car; this 5-ton electric vertical takeoff (eVTOL) aircraft has earned the title of the world’s largest flying car of its kind after a successful demonstration flight in the city of Kanshan.
The Matrix, with a wingspan of 20 meters, a fuselage length of 17.1 meters, and a height of 3.3 meters, is capable of carrying 10 passengers or heavy cargo, and is available in two versions: passenger and logistics (cargo).
The maximum takeoff weight of this aircraft is close to 6 tons. Its cargo version is capable of carrying 1,500 kilograms of cargo; the range of the all-electric version is announced to be 250 kilometers and the hybrid version to 1,500 kilometers.
In the recent test flight, the Matrix successfully completed the transition stages from vertical takeoff to horizontal flight and then vertical landing, demonstrating its high technical performance.
The Chinese government is developing more than 300 new standards and regulations by 2030 to pave the way for the widespread and safe use of these flying cars in urban environments.
