The United States begins paying billions in debt to the United Nations
Michael Waltz, the US ambassador to the United Nations, announced that Washington has begun making initial payments to settle billions of dollars in outstanding debt to the UN.
According to a Reuters report published on Saturday, February 8,2026, Waltz emphasized that these payments would be made in the coming weeks, while also insisting on the need for fundamental reforms in the structure and functioning of the United Nations.
This action comes at a time when the United States has been one of the largest financial debtors to the United Nations for years and has challenged the organization’s regular budget payments.
