CENTCOM chief visits aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln in Arabian Sea

US Chief of Naval Operations Brad Cooper, head of US Central Command (CENTCOM), visited the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) on Saturday, 18th of Dhu al-Bayt , along with US Special Envoy for Peace Steve Whittock and Jared Kushner, while transiting the Arabian Sea.

The visit was part of a planned deployment; Cooper praised the service and dedication of the sailors and Marines of the aircraft carrier strike group, saying, “Their dedication and professionalism are evident in the Middle East, and they represent the readiness and strength of the U.S. military.”

US Central Command emphasized that the visit was conducted to monitor operational readiness, monitor ship missions, and coordinate with forces deployed in the CENTCOM area of responsibility.

The Abraham Lincoln has been deployed from San Diego since last November, initially operating in the Indo-Pacific Ocean, and has been in the Middle East since January.

The task force includes the command section of the Third Carrier Strike Group, Destroyer Squadron 21, the 9th Carrier Air Wing, and several guided missile destroyers.

This military presence comes at a time of heightened regional political tensions and a sensitive diplomatic trajectory over Iran’s nuclear program; the first round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States ended in Oman on Friday, and Washington describes the naval deployments as routine, but these actions are usually interpreted as a message of deterrence and support for allies.
