Contract to produce 9,407 megawatts of electricity this year: A big step for Breshna to reduce dependence on energy imports
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan Breshna Company announced that this year (1404 AH) it has signed contracts and memorandums of understanding with domestic and foreign companies with a total capacity of 9,407 megawatts of electricity to increase domestic electricity production and reduce the country’s dependence on energy imports.
According to Mohammad Nasser Ahmadi, head of planning at Breshna Company, these projects will be powered by diverse energy sources, including coal, natural gas, and thermal energy.
He added: “Technical studies of these projects have begun, including 323 megawatts of electricity from coal sources, the technical studies of which have been completed and construction will begin soon in three parts of the country, and a contract to produce 100 megawatts of electricity from natural gas has been signed and its implementation has practically begun.”
This is while the Breshna Company has already started a 34 MW solar power generation project, a 126 MW substation, and a 220 kV transmission line in Kabul’s Green Industries Industrial Park, worth nearly $40 million.
