Afghanistan, Iran and Türkiye sign trilateral railway agreement

The Ministry of Public Works of the Islamic Emirate announced that a trilateral agreement on railway cooperation between Afghanistan, Iran, and Turkey was signed on Friday on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the International Union of Railways in Turkey.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by Jabbar Ali Zakeri, CEO of Iran Railways, Veysi Kurt, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Turkish State Railways, and Mohammad Eshaq Sahibzadeh, Deputy Minister of Public Works and Head of the National Railways Administration.

The main objective of this five-year agreement is to deepen bilateral and trilateral cooperation, increase the efficiency of railway infrastructure, facilitate border crossings, maximize transport capacity, and create a sustainable railway corridor between the three countries.

Within the framework of this agreement, planning is foreseen for sharing expertise in areas such as human resource development, maintenance and infrastructure upgrades, railway digitalization, traffic management capacity allocation, and mutual technical visits.
