Donald Trump’s five-day trip to Asia focuses on mineral trade deals and ceasefires
US President Donald Trump is trying to reach new agreements on mineral trade and ceasefires during his five-day trip to Asia.
The trip includes visits to Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea, and the most important part of it is the possibility of his direct talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the South Korean city of Busan.
According to news sources, Trump will pursue a final ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit.
On the trade front, he is negotiating with the aim of reducing tariffs on Chinese imports, extending current rates, or ensuring purchases of American products such as soybeans and Boeing aircraft.
Trump has warned that tariffs on Chinese imports will increase to 155% from November 1 if no agreement is reached.
Possible topics for Trump’s conversation with Xi Jinping include Taiwan, Russia, and the case of imprisoned media activist Jimmy Lai in Hong Kong.
