Ukrainian Air Force uses MiG-29 fighters with Azerbaijani livery against Russia

According to reports, the Ukrainian Air Force has been using MiG-29 fighters with a paint scheme belonging to the Azerbaijani Air Force in combat operations against Russia.

These fighters, which have been spotted with Ukrainian markings and equipped with R-27 and R-73 air-to-air missiles, were previously undergoing repairs and modernization at the Lviv Aircraft Repair Plant in Ukraine.

This move could be a sign of Baku’s tacit support for Ukraine against Russia, especially in the wake of recent heightened diplomatic tensions between Azerbaijan and Russia.

News sources suggest that this military cooperation may be a response to differences between Baku and Moscow, while Azerbaijan has strengthened its relations with Türkiye and some NATO members.

It was previously reported that three MiG-29s belonging to the Azerbaijani Air Force were undergoing repairs at the Lviv factory when Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.
