Shahbaz Sharif considers Iran-US agreement a positive step for regional stability

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif welcomed the agreement between Iran and the United States on Tuesday (23th of June ), describing it as a welcome development and an important step towards strengthening regional security and stability.

He said in a session of the National Assembly of Pakistan that progress in the Iran-US talks is a positive development not only for the Middle East but also for the international community.

Referring to the talks held in Switzerland mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, the Pakistani Prime Minister stated that Islamabad had worked with complete sincerity to bridge the gap between the two sides, and the talks continued from Sunday to midnight on Monday.

Shahbaz Sharif added that after the end of the negotiations, a joint statement was issued by the mediators, based on which technical negotiations between Iran and the United States will continue for the next 60 days.

He also emphasized Pakistan’s role in this process, calling it an important and historic achievement for his country, and expressed hope that the understandings reached would become a lasting agreement that would pave the way for peace and stability in the region and the world.

The Pakistani Prime Minister also announced today’s visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezzekian to Pakistan and said that the focus of the talks between the two sides will be on expanding bilateral relations and joint cooperation.
