UN: A quarter of Lebanon’s population faces severe food insecurity

The United Nations World Food Program has announced that about 1.24 million people, equivalent to nearly a quarter of Lebanon’s population, will face acute food insecurity between April and August 2026.

In its latest assessment, the organization warned that the food crisis in Lebanon continues to escalate and that a large number of citizens are in need of humanitarian assistance.

The World Food Program has identified the main factors for this situation as widespread population displacement, rising food and fuel prices, disruption to market activity, and continuing economic problems.

The United Nations has emphasized that the ongoing economic crisis and recent unrest have placed additional pressure on vulnerable families, making it more difficult for them to access sufficient food.
