Peace march held in Tokyo with 50,000 participants
A large peace march was held in Tokyo with the participation of about 50,000 people, and participants called for the preservation of the country’s pacifist policies.
The event coincides with the 79th anniversary of the ratification of the Japanese Constitution, a law known as the “Peace Constitution” due to its Article 9, which emphasizes non-recourse to war and avoidance of militarization.
Participants in the march emphasized the preservation of the provisions of this law by chanting slogans such as “No” to war, “No to changing the constitution,” and “No to militarization.”
The rally comes as discussions about revising Japan’s constitution and increasing the country’s military power have increased in recent years.
