Pentagon :The release results of review of US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan this summer
The US Department of War has announced that the findings of a review into the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan in 2021 will be released this summer.
US Secretary of War Pete Hegsett has said the review includes decisions that led to the deadly attack at Kabul airport in the final days of the withdrawal.
He said the Pentagon is conducting a full internal review and described previous reports as incomplete and opaque.
Hegsett called the process of withdrawing American forces “catastrophic” and said its consequences went beyond Afghanistan and affected the global perception of America’s deterrent power.
On August 26, 2021, as American forces were withdrawing from Afghanistan, an explosion occurred near Kabul Airport, killing 13 American soldiers.
