Iraq has so far accepted 1,300 ISIS members from Syria

Hussein Allawi, advisor to the Iraqi Prime Minister, announced in an interview with Al-Arabiya that Baghdad has so far accepted 1,300 elements affiliated with the ISIS terrorist group, only 4 of whom have Iraqi citizenship and the rest are citizens of other countries.

He emphasized that Iraqi security institutions have dealt with these individuals based on precise security mechanisms, and all stages of acceptance, detention, and review are carried out under the full supervision of intelligence and security agencies so that no threat is posed to Iraq’s internal security.

Allawi also assessed the recent agreement between the Syrian interim government and the Kurdish militia (SDF) as positive and in line with Iraq’s interests, saying that this agreement could lead to strengthening regional cooperation in the fight against ISIS, information exchange, and security cooperation.

The Iraqi Prime Minister’s advisor added that Baghdad will closely and continuously monitor the implementation of this agreement to prevent any deviations or unwanted security consequences for neighboring countries.
