The United Nations Security Council announced in a report that it is expected that the draft extension of the mandate of the Analytical Support Group and the Sanctions Monitoring Group, which assists the 1988 Afghanistan Sanctions Committee, will be approved by the members in February.

The current mandate of this monitoring group ends on February 17, and its extension has been declared necessary to continue activities related to sanctions monitoring.

The 1988 Sanctions Committee imposes asset freezes, travel bans, and arms embargoes on individuals and groups associated with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

This committee monitors the list of individuals and entities subject to sanctions, reviews requests for exemptions, and assists member states in the strict implementation of sanctions through reports and recommendations from the monitoring group.
