US military attacks suspected drug smuggling ship in eastern Pacific

The US military announced that it had targeted another ship in the eastern Pacific Ocean, killing four people.

The US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) claimed in a statement that the ship belonged to a terrorist organization and was traveling on a known drug smuggling route.

The attack took place on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, and a video of the moment the boat exploded was released.

The operation is part of the Trump administration’s broad campaign against drug cartels that began in September 2025 and has so far resulted in the deaths of at least 99 people in 26 attacks.

These attacks have faced widespread criticism in Congress and Latin American countries, and their legality has been questioned
