Russia’s massive combined attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure
The Ukrainian Ministry of Energy announced that the country’s energy and gas facilities were targeted in a large-scale combined attack on Saturday .
Reports indicate a series of powerful explosions in the city of Pavlograd, with a chemical plant apparently the main target.
The attacks have led to power outages in several regions of Ukraine; in Kharkiv, the Zmievskaya thermal power plant was hit, leading to the suspension of trains.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, the Pridneprovska thermal power plant was damaged, causing a power and water outage in the city.
About 20 explosions were heard near the Kremenchuk hydroelectric power plant, and gas production facilities in the Poltava region were also attacked.
Published maps show the approximate path of drones and missiles during the nighttime attacks, which were directed at energy targets from multiple directions.
Ukrainian officials have described the attacks as an attempt to cripple vital infrastructure on the eve of winter.
