Netanyahu and Abbas confirmed to attend Sharm el-Sheikh peace summit in Egypt
The Egyptian government officially announced on Monday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will participate in the international Gaza peace conference in Sharm El-Sheikh.
This announcement came after reports of the possible absence of the two individuals.
According to a statement from the Egyptian presidency, US President Donald Trump spoke with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in a phone call in the presence of Netanyahu.
During this call, it was agreed that Netanyahu and Abbas would also join the summit.
The summit, mediated by the United States, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, will take place at 2:30 p.m. local time and will bring together more than 30 world leaders, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, and aims to finalize a ceasefire agreement and a post-war plan for Gaza.
Trump described the summit as a historic moment for lasting peace and emphasized that it is part of his 20-point peace plan.
