Venezuela’s National Assembly approves strategic partnership agreement with Russia

The Venezuelan National Assembly (AN) approved by an absolute majority the law approving the Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with Russia.

The agreement, signed in Moscow sets a new framework for long-term interactions between the two countries in the fields of defense, economy, energy, and culture, and is valid for 10 years with the possibility of extension.

Sergei Melik-Baghdasarov, the Russian ambassador to Caracas, announced the news to TASS, stressing that this step opens a new stage in Russian-Venezuelan relations, especially in the year of the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He added: “This agreement is based on the ideas of peace, justice, and friendship between nations.”

Jorge Rodriguez, the president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, delivered the approved document to the Russian ambassador, calling it “an encouraging step against the renaissance of neo-fascism and global extremism.”

It is worth noting that Russia and Venezuela, as key allies in the fields of oil, weapons, and anti-American diplomacy, cooperate closely.
