Russia’s casualties in Ukraine are 20 times higher than those of the former Soviet Union in Afghanistan
British Foreign Secretary Youth Cooper said Russia’s military casualties in Ukraine are now 20 times higher than those of the former Soviet Union in Afghanistan.
These statements were made at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council and were described as reflecting the heavy and catastrophic damage caused by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
Cooper emphasized that in this war that Russia started, their casualties are now 20 times higher than the Soviet casualties in Afghanistan.
He warned that Western allies would continue to pressure Russia and impose more sanctions to reduce Moscow’s financial ability to finance the war.
Cooper added: “We will target your damaged economy, the oil and gas revenues that fund this war.”
As a historical background, the Soviet war in Afghanistan lasted from December 1979 to 1989, leaving more than 15,000 Soviet dead and 50,000 wounded, contributing to the economic weakening and eventual collapse of the Soviet Union.
