Unveiling the world’s cheapest laser weapon, Apollo, capable of destroying 50 drones per minute

Australian defense technology company Electro Optic Systems (EOS) has unveiled its advanced laser weapon, the Apollo.

This weapon, described as the world’s cheapest high-power laser system, is capable of destroying up to 50 drones in groups 1 to 3 per minute with a power of 150 kilowatts, and is considered a milestone in the directed energy weapons market.

According to the announcement of EOS Apollo, which was introduced in London on the eve of the 2025 SE Defense Exhibition (to be held on September 12), it can destroy 20 to 50 drones per minute.

This system, with a high rotation rate of less than 1.5 seconds for a 60-degree angle change, allows for rapid targeting and re-targeting, and is capable of unlimited engagement when connected to an external power source.

The unveiling follows the signing of the first global export contract for a 100-kilowatt laser weapon in August 2025 with a NATO member country in Europe
