Protesters in Nepal set fire to the Prime Minister’s house

According to news sources, angry protesters in Nepal set fire to the private home of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in the Baluwatar area of Kathmandu on Monday (September 8, 2025)

The move comes amid intensifying protests against the government over its poor response to recent deadly floods in southern Nepal, which have killed more than 220 people and displaced hundreds of thousands.

According to reports, protesters, mostly from flood-affected areas and local communities angry at the lack of timely relief, gathered in front of the prime minister’s residence, threw stones and Molotov cocktails, and set parts of the building on fire.

Eyewitnesses reported that Prime Minister Oli had been evacuated by helicopter to a safe location before the protests intensified.

Reuters and local networks such as Kantipur reported that the protests intensified after the government was criticized for its slow distribution of humanitarian aid and poor management of the flood crisis.
