According to the Al-Noshreh news network, “Tom Barak, the US special envoy for Lebanon, attacked Lebanese journalists with offensive and undiplomatic language during a press conference after meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at the Baabda Palace.”
Barak, irritated by the reporters’ repeated questions, addressed them, saying, “We’re going to impose a different set of rules here. Be quiet for a moment.”
He also threatened in a contemptuous tone that he would leave the place in the event of chaos and animalistic behavior, adding: “If you ask questions civilly and kindly, we will answer, otherwise we will leave here.”
In response to this behavior, the Lebanese presidential office limited itself to expressing regret, describing it as an unintentional act.
But the Lebanese Press Photographers Union called the move “a dangerous and completely unacceptable precedent” and called for an immediate and public apology from the journalists and photographers who were insulted.
