Qatar’s controversial gift to Trump; Pentagon accepts a luxurious Boeing for presidential use
The US Department of Defense has accepted a luxury Boeing 747 aircraft donated by the government of Qatar for the use of President Donald Trump.
The Pentagon announced on Wednesday, May 21, that the plane was intended for official presidential use in compliance with all federal regulations and that the necessary security measures were currently being taken for it.
US President Donald Trump received the gift during his recent trip to the Middle East and described it as a way to save taxpayers money.
Trump wrote on his social media: “Why should our military, and indeed our taxpayers, pay hundreds of millions of dollars when we can get it for free?”
However, critics, including members of the Democratic Party, have called the acceptance of this plane a violation of the US Constitution, which prohibits accepting expensive gifts from foreign countries without Congressional approval.
