Russia released an American citizen named Mark Fogel following the meeting of the US representative in the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, with the Russian authorities in Moscow.
The Associated Press reported that Steve Witkoff left the Russian airspace with Fogel a few moments ago; Fogel is a history teacher who was arrested in August 2021.
Mike Waltz, Trump’s national security adviser, said Russia and the United States had negotiated a swap to secure Fogel’s release.
He declined to comment on what concessions the US has given in return for the deal.
