US President Donald Trump said at a campaign rally in Dubuque, Iowa, that he could have won the war in Afghanistan in three weeks.
Trump has criticized previous US presidents, referring to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people in the wars in Afghanistan and Vietnam, and said: “We are not fighting to win, we are fighting to achieve an equal outcome. I don’t know what we are doing.”
He had previously repeatedly criticized former US President Joe Biden and called the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan shameful.
These statements come at a time when, according to a number of analysts, the United States has failed to achieve its goals after about 20 years of military presence in Afghanistan.
